Forgot your pattern or PIN

Your recovery phrase lets you choose a new pattern or PIN, and then the Vault opens. You'll need the paper you wrote it on.

Step by step

1. Open the Vault tab and tap Forgot your pattern? or Forgot your PIN?
2. Type your recovery phrase from your paper. Capitals and spacing don't matter.
3. Choose a new one of the same kind: a new pattern if you used a pattern, a new PIN if you used a PIN. The Vault then opens with your pictures still there. To switch kinds, use Change PIN or pattern in the ••• menu.

If you get your pattern or PIN wrong too many times

Your first 4 wrong tries bring no wait. A 5th means waiting 1 minute, then 5, 15 and 60 minutes after more wrong tries. Wrong tries never wipe your pictures.

If you've lost your recovery phrase

If you can still open the Vault, open it and tap New recovery phrase in the ••• menu. Backups you've already made still need the old phrase, so make a new backup too.

Good to know

• If you lose both your pattern or PIN and your recovery phrase, nobody can open the Vault, including us. We can't reset it, because we don't have your key.
• Your phrase also opens any backup you make, so keep the paper somewhere safe.
