Help / Search, sort and rename in the Vault

Search, sort and rename in the Vault

Once the Vault fills up, a few small tools help you find things again. Open the Vault first. If you haven't set it up yet, start with Set up your Vault.

Rename an item

  1. Tap the picture, video or file in the Vault to open it.
  2. Tap Rename at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Type the new name and tap Save. Tap Cancel to leave it as it was.

For a picture or video, you can leave the name empty to remove it. A file always keeps a name, and its file type stays the same, so it still opens. Names can be up to 120 characters, and any / or : you type is changed to a dash. If a name can't be saved, FirstHour says so and the old name stays.

A note has no Rename button. Its name is simply its first line, so to change it, open the note, tap Edit and change that line.

Sort the Vault

  1. Tap the sort button, just right of the search box. It shows how the Vault is sorted now.
  2. Under Sort by, choose one: Newest first, Oldest first, Name or Largest first.

Newest and oldest go by when you added the item to the Vault. Sorting by name puts items without a name after the ones that have one. FirstHour remembers your choice for this Vault.

Show just one kind

  1. Tap the same sort button.
  2. Under Show, choose one: Everything, Pictures, Videos, Files or Notes.
  3. To see everything again, tap Show all beside the line that says what you're showing, such as "Showing pictures only".

Nothing is hidden for good. The rest of the Vault is still there, and FirstHour remembers this choice too.

Search

  1. Tap the Search box above the grid and type a word or two.
  2. Look at the results. The Vault shows only the items that match, with a count such as "1 found". An item must contain every word you typed, in any order. Capitals and accents don't matter.
  3. To clear it, tap the cross at the end of the box.

Search looks through item names, file names, labels and the words in your notes. If nothing matches, the Vault says "Nothing found" and reminds you that search reads names, labels and notes, not the words inside pictures or files. If you've chosen to show just one kind, search looks only within that kind.
