iPhone stolen in the United States: who to call

Short answerFrom another phone or a computer, mark your iPhone as lost at icloud.com/find. Then block your SIM with your network, and call your bank. If you're in danger, call 911 first.

Take a breath, and ask someone to help if you can. We read each number below on an official page on 3 November 2026. Where it's a regulator's or government page rather than the company's own, the note says so. Numbers change, so if one doesn't work, use the official page beside it. Numbers that only work from your own network's phone won't help until you have a SIM again, so look for another way to reach them. Call costs vary.

First steps

  1. Mark your iPhone as lost at icloud.com/find. Here's the full plan.
  2. Block your SIM with your network, so nobody else can receive your login codes. Ask how to get your own codes or a replacement SIM.
  3. Call your banks and e-wallets, and ask them to protect your accounts.
  4. Report it to the police and ask about blocking the phone.

Report it to the police

Use your local police non-emergency line. Give the make, model, serial number and IMEI.

Block the phone

Ask your carrier to block the phone's IMEI. Verizon says suspending a line as lost or stolen also blocks the phone on its network, and T-Mobile says reporting it stolen blocks its IMEI on most networks.

Report fraud or identity theft

If accounts were opened or money taken, report it at IdentityTheft.gov for a free recovery plan. A credit freeze stops new credit accounts in your name. The FTC says it's free and lasts until you lift it, and you need to contact all three bureaus.
