iPhone stolen in New Zealand: who to call

Short answerFrom another phone or a computer, mark your iPhone as lost at icloud.com/find. Then block your SIM with your network, and call your bank. If you're in danger, call 111 first.

Take a breath, and ask someone to help if you can. We read each number below on an official page on 3 November 2026. Where it's a regulator's or government page rather than the company's own, the note says so. Numbers change, so if one doesn't work, use the official page beside it. Numbers that only work from your own network's phone won't help until you have a SIM again, so look for another way to reach them. Call costs vary.

First steps

  1. Mark your iPhone as lost at icloud.com/find. Here's the full plan.
  2. Block your SIM with your network, so nobody else can receive your login codes. Ask how to get your own codes or a replacement SIM.
  3. Call your banks and e-wallets, and ask them to protect your accounts.
  4. Report it to the police and ask about blocking the phone.

Have your 4-digit Security PIN, the date it was lost or stolen, and the IMEI ready. One NZ bars your connection straight away to stop use and incoming calls. You can move your number to a new SIM at a One NZ store with photo ID, and the old SIM then stops working. The page does not give hours.

To block the phone on any New Zealand network, call Customer Care with your IMEI and be ready to prove you own the account. The page says 2degrees can't block a phone that hasn't been used on its network for more than 30 days. It does not give hours.

Use their official help page.
Skinny's page, on Spark's site, says you can block or unblock your SIM yourself in your online dashboard, under Phone, SIM & Number, from New Zealand or overseas. It says to get in touch if you can't do it online, and to contact the police about a theft. We could not read a Spark phone number. After contacting the police, you can chat on the page to ask for a temporary or permanent block on the device.

Report it to the police

If nobody is in danger, report the theft to the police online at 105.police.govt.nz or by calling 105. After an online report, the police email you a confirmation with a reference number, which you can use for an insurance claim. The police page says to include the make, model and serial number if the item has one. It does not mention the IMEI, but your network will ask for it.

Block the phone

New Zealand has a shared block list for stolen phones. The industry body, the Telecommunications Forum, says you ask your own mobile provider to block the phone by its IMEI (its 15-digit serial number). Once a phone is blocked on one network, it is blocked on all networks in New Zealand, so it can't make or receive calls or use data. The forum says a stolen phone may be added up to 30 days after the event. The block only applies in New Zealand, so the forum says New Zealand networks cannot block a phone that was lost or stolen overseas. Only the owner who reported the phone can ask for the block to be removed, and proof of ownership may be needed.

The forum does not block phones itself. Contact your mobile provider.

Report fraud or identity theft

We did not find a single New Zealand service on an official page that cancels all your cards at once. Call each bank, and tell the police if someone has used your accounts.
